Trainer spotlight

Matthew McMann

Personal Trainer

I love the feeling of when a client lights up because you are coaching their class. Knowing that they trust you to listen to them and push them just enough.

1.) What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Being able to help people stay healthy.

2.) How long have you been in the fitness industry?

6 years as of 2025

3.) What certifications, degrees, or qualifications do you hold?
NASM CPT

4.) What is your fitness philosophy or approach to training clients?
Functional fitness. Listening to your body while also challenging yourself. You don’t have to be the strongest or fastest in the room, you just have to show up and put in work.

5.) Can you share a memorable success story from your time as a trainer?
I love the feeling of when a client lights up because you are coaching their class. Knowing that they trust you to listen to them and push them just enough.

6.) What types of training or fitness modalities do you specialize in?
Functional training, strength training, and stretching.

7.) What is one positive thing clients should expect when they are working with you?
I am always asking them before each workout how they are feeling physically and mentally. Their wellbeing is the most important thing to me.

8.) How do you tailor training programs to meet the individual needs of clients in both a 1 on 1 and group setting?
I take people where they are at. I don’t like to use a one size fits all, or my way or the highway approach. No matter if it is a 1 on 1 or a group I will make sure each person is comfortable and successful in the movements we do.

9.) How do you stay motivated/disciplined and continue your own fitness journey?
My kids. They keep me moving and motivated to keep up with them.

10.) What advice do you give to those who are just starting their fitness journey?
Get out of your own head. We set ourselves up for failure at times because we want to teleport to the top of the mountain right away. Be kind with yourself and your body. Take it one day at a time, be kind to yourself, and celebrate the small accomplishments as they come.

11.) What activities or hobbies do you enjoy doing outside of training?
I enjoy my family, coaching baseball and soccer, traveling, and cooking.

12.) What is your favorite workout or exercise, and why do you love it?
My favorite workouts are the ones where I bring playing cards or dice into the mix. A fast pace multiple movement circuit with a little element of chance. Making the workout fun can make 40 minutes feel like 5.
